Seismic qualification of a centrifugal pump of nuclear power plant

ProSIM worked as seismic design consultant and seismic analysis consultant to a EPC contractor tasked with setting up of forwarding pump for chiller water system in a nuclear power plant. ProSIM provided the seismic analysis service of control Panel in the chilled water system for NPP.
ProSIM being FEA Seismic Consultants provided the FEA Seismic Qualification of pumps. During the Nuclear Seismic Analysis of pumps, we checked the structural integrity & functional operability of pumps. The Nuclear Seismic Evaluation is carried out for the pumps ensuring that the stress & displacement criteria meet the codal requirement.
The centrifugal pump used in chiller package has a design pressure is 15kg/cm2 with a capacity of 850m3/hr with Net Positive suction head (R) of 5m, with 1500RPM. The motor rating is 245KW. This pump is class-2 safety class system.
The seismic Qualification is done as per ASME Sec III Div 1 Subsection NCD & ensured that the pump meets the codal requirement for the different loads & load combinations. The Bearing load bearing capacity check also been performed whether the selected bearing suits the requirement or not.
Seismic analysis of pumps involves assessing their ability to withstand earthquake-induced forces to ensure operational safety and reliability.
FE Modeling is done using Hypermesh including the mass details of components of the pumps. Loads acting on the pumps are prescribed in the CAE model, including static loads, thermal loads, and occasional loads (OBE & SSE) & their combination as per ASME Codes/ AERB guidelines.
ProSIM is an approved FEA consultants by NPCIL to carry out FEA consultancy service, nuclear seismic analysis and provide seismic qualification service to NPCIL vendor ecosystem.
